Squamish means mother of wind so as you can imagine it gets windy here a lot! The average wind speed for Squamish is 20/25 knots during the summer months. The wind starts (weather permitting) at around 9 am and occasionally you can find your self kiting well after the sun has gone down!

Another reason to come to Squamish for kiteboarding is that its a very safe environment to kite in. For independent kiteboarders wanting to kite from the spit, the Squamish Windsports Society provide a jet ski rescue service which is provided to all who pay the membership fee to use the spit. Memberships can be purchased for the day or annual memberships are available to those wanting to come more reguarly.
For beginners, Squamish is one of only a few places where teaching is done almost entirely from a boat. The schools in Squamish take you far up the Howe Sound away from all of the other kiteboarders and obstacles which allows you to be in a safe, stress free learning environment.
