As a kitesurfing beginner it is important to take lessons. Learning alone can be extremely dangerous and end in serious injury.
Learning from a boat is the safest and most progressive way of learning. When teaching a kitesurfing beginner, our instructors will start by connecting the kite directly to the boat, this way the power from the kite will be sent through the boat and not through the person. Once comfortable, the kite will then be connected to the learner and they will go in the water.
Because of the boat, independence skills such as upwind body dragging (to retrieve a lost board), and up wind riding aren’t essential skills to learn. The instructor is able to drive the kite back upwind as well as retrieve any lost boards. This saves hours and energy of otherwise walking upwind at a beach location.
